The bonded seals WUS consists of a metallic flat seal and a directly vulcanized elastomer gasket body for static sealing of a screw at the screw head. Normally the gasket body has a trapezoidal shape and can be located on the inside (shape U) or on the outside (shape UA) depending on the application. By tightening the screw the gasket body gets shaped until metallic traction is achieved with the metallic supporting body. The contact area of the screw head (bottom side) must be flat. A bonded seal with self-centering WUSS has another lip at his command that only guarantees the self-centering (or the minimum distance to the cylindrical pin above the thread).
ADVANTAGES ARE
- intrusion or extrusion of media and/or dirt can be avoided
- perfect compression of the gasket element due to the metallic supporting body
- long service life (wear-resistant to the greatest possible extent)
- applicable with high pressure
- very simple installation
APPLICATION RANGE
working pressure: | ≤ 100 MPa (application with counterbore) |
≤ 40 MPa (application without counterbore up to Ø 40 mm)
≤ 25 MPa (application without counterbore from Ø 40 mm)
(Requirement of the surface roughness: Rmax ≤15 μm, Ra ≤ 3μm)
working temperature: | Use of mineral oils according to DIN 51 524 as well as HFA, HFB, HFC according to VDMA 24 320: |
NBR from - 30 °C up to + 100 °C
FKM from – 15 °C up to + 180 °C
Use of hot air: | FKM up to 250 °C |
media: | Generally NBR is characterized by a good resistance to mineral oil based fluids as well as noninflammable fuilds Furthermore FKM is characterized by an excellent resistance to ozone, oxygen, synthetic hydraulic fluids, gasoline, solvents and chemicals The indicated data form the limit of resilience and interact with one another. The maximum exploitation of one parameter in combination with frequent pulsating pressure will lead to a reduction of the other parameters. |
MATERIAL
The standard material of the gasket element is NBR or FKM. Further elastomer materials like EPDM, HNBR etc. which can be combined with the metallic supporting body are available on request. The standard material of the metallic body is a chrome-galvanized normal steel (material no.: 1.0330 // standard designation: St12O3). A stainless steel (material no.: 1.4301 // standard designation: X5CrNi18-10) is also available by default. Further steel alloys are possible on request, e.g. 1.4401 (standard designation: X5CrNiMo17-12-2) or 1.475 (standard designation: X6CrNiMoTi17-12- 2). These materials have a higher resistance to corrosion and acids.
MOUNTING INSTRUCTIONS
When installing a bonded seal without self-centering, there has to be placed special attention on the almost centered position or centering. A damage of the gasket element as a result of canting or crimping can lead to leakage. With regard to a faultless functionality of the bonded seal, a countersink for the bore should be avoided, because the gasket element can be easily damage by the thread and this will cause leakage. The maximum tightening torque for normal steel should be the same like for screws with a quality class 5.6 and for stainless steel like for screws with quality class 8.8. We recommend the use of a torque wrench. The force fit of the metallic supporting body with the contact face of the screw head (bottom) has to be sufficient when choosing the bonded seal. It is necessary to provide enough space for the trapezoid-shaped sealing element because of the compression. To this end, it therefore is advisable to follow our recommendations. Beyond an outer diameter D of about ≥ 40 mm a countersink is required. The graph shows how such a counterbore should look like.
ts | = 0,5 up to 1 mm |
Ds | = (D + 0,5) [surface H13] |
