The O-ring is a very versatile, high-performance and also very economical sealing element. It is the most widely used sealing element due to its cost-effective production, enormous variety of materials and easy handling. It is defined by the inner diameter and the cord thickness. The quality and application criteria are laid down in DIN ISO 3601.

Material
The variety of O-ring materials is huge. In the various elastomer groups there is a wide range of compounds (NBR, FKM, EPDM, MVQ, FMVQ, HNBR, AU, PUR, FFKM, FEPM, CR, ACM ...) which differ in their hardness, chemical and temperature resistance, colour and conformity (FDA, USP VI, 3A Sanitary, EG1935/2004, etc.) to a wide range of industrial standards. Our perfluoroelastomer compounds (FFKM), for example, are ideal for broad chemical resistance in the temperature range up to 320°C.

Area of application
There is no area in industry where the O-ring is not used. It is used as a single seal or preload element in hydraulic and pneumatic sealing systems. In most cases, the O-ring is used radially or axially statically in bushes, covers and cylinders or in flanges and closures.
