PFAS high-performance gaskets - as a safe solution and sustainable alternative

PFAS (perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl substances) are fundamental components of modern sealing technology.

Particularly in the form of materials such as PTFE, FKM and FFKM, they offer outstanding properties: extreme chemical resistance, high thermal stability and exceptionally low friction. These advantages make PFAS-based seals the standard for demanding applications in the chemical and process industries:

  • Chemical and process industries
  • Food and pharmaceutical production
  • Mechanical and plant engineering
  • Hydraulics and motor technology

Current challenge: Sustainability & regulation

Due to their environmental persistence and potential health risks, PFAS are regulated throughout Europe - with far-reaching consequences for sealing technology. The EU is working on a far-reaching restriction proposal that requires adjustments and innovations.

Important facts:

  • For many highly demanding applications, there are currently no equivalent, PFAS-free alternatives.
  • PFAS-free means: no intentionally added PFAS - a complete analytical exclusion is hardly possible.
  • The industry is intensively searching for solutions to combine regulatory requirements and the highest quality standards.

Our answer: progress & responsibility

We accompany the change:

  • Customised advice on the selection of suitable sealing materials
  • Modern production processes for maximum safety and quality
  • Development and testing of PFAS-free alternatives, e.g. based on TPU or UHMW-PE
  • Transparent communication on material properties, risks and legal requirements

PFAS-free seals have already been tried and tested in less extreme applications. For many key applications, however, specialised fluoropolymers remain the current state of the art.
